After our two days of rest in Oloron-Sainte-Marie, France, we finally hiked again! But… at the end of today, which was a strange, long, and beautiful day, we decided, yet again, to take a rest day tomorrow.
Therefore, I will expand on today’s hike, while we rest tomorrow. I will try not to think about the fact, that we are hiking at a snail’s pace in the land of snails- actually it’s not a cliche, there have been more slugs and snails on our hike through southern France, than I have ever seen before.
I will simply add this photo for today. Do you remember our friend from Day 10? Pepito? The man that I said possibly saved our lives, when he and his wife drove by us, after we hobbled into Oloron-Sainte-Marie from almost 10 hours of hiking. He and his wife had insisted, that we jump into their car in order to drive us through the complicated neighborhood leading to our pilgrim’s gite?
Well, we saw Pepito again today! Three days later… While hiking… Outside of Oloron-Sainte-Marie… And he was on a road bike.
WTF (What The France?!)
Are you kidding me? Pepito just happened to be riding his road bike on the outskirts of the city, a VERY large city, where these kind of accidents don’t JUST happen. He stopped to talk to us for a while, and he was as excited (or more so!) than three days ago. The guy that I claimed to have saved us three days ago just very well may be our guardian angel.
Oh, and by the way, he was on a “leisurely” four hour bike ride. And Pepito is 87. What the France?!
Distance: 15,245 Steps/ 7.49 Miles/ 12.05 Kilometers (It’s actually 41 kilometers from Oloron-Sainte-Marie to Musculdy- find out tomorrow why we only hiked 12!)
Location: Oloron-Sainte-Marie, France to Musculdy, France
